Ed Jones heads the consulting, research and development activities for Constellation Communication Corp. Jones is a specialist in event marketing and trade shows, customer executive programs, association marketing, market research, event measurement, return on objectives and return on investment techniques. Jones also provides facilitation and consulting in market and account planning for major Constellation clients.
Years In The Industry:
Thirty-three years in various sales, marketing and executive management positions.
Over the past 12 years Jones has served as head of consulting services for Caribiner International and the acquiring companies of Jack Morton, and Right Source. Jones later established consulting services for Nth Degree. Jones was responsible for the return on objectives and return on investment methodologies for those companies.
Before joining Caribiner, Jones ran the market research and consulting firm, Executive Education & Management, Inc. EE&M provided information and advice on event marketing and customer executive programs to many of the world’s largest companies. Jones’ executive level customer seminar projects include MCI’s Executive Communications Seminar, Nortel’s Institute for Information Studies, AT&T’s Center for Executive Education, Harris Corporation’s Customer Vision™, Gartner Group’s Information Technology Executive Program (U.S. and Europe) and several programs for BellSouth, Rockwell and others. Jones has evaluated executive hospitality programs for AT&T, BellSouth, Coca-Cola and AMD.
Jones conducted large-scale event measurement research, such as the audience, delegate, exhibitor and sponsor survey work for the International Telecommunication Union's Telecom ‘95 show in Geneva, Switzerland. He also provided event diagnostic research for Gartner Group’s U.S., European and Australian Symposiums and analysts conferences.
Building upon his information systems background, Ed pioneered automation of event marketing management activities, including results projection, ROI measurement, budgeting, lead management and . The Analytical Model of Trade Show Selectionsm is a computerized, ROI based method to help firms select and evaluate the return on event marketing activities that reach the desired target markets and provide the greatest return on investment.
Jones speaks and writes frequently on new and effective marketing communications and event marketing techniques.
Research and Measurement:
As a marketing manager at AT&T, Jones concluded that much of the market research he received was of limited value. Jones developed qualitative research techniques to supplement quantitative results. This type of information explains the “reasons behind the numbers” and also provides insight into how to change the results for the better.
Using these techniques, Jones developed important new corporate customer service standards for MCI and other companies. The MCI research determined the satisfaction levels of over 30,000 customers each year and was credited with increasing the overall corporate customer satisfaction score into the high 90 % range. Jones now applies this type of research to determine the wants and needs of targeted audiences for client projects and events. Jones always includes a generous helping of qualitative research that provides the means for creating resonant marketing messages by using the targeted individuals’ own words in development of sales and marketing materials.
Jones provides strategic consulting and research for industry and trade associations such as IEEE, IHRIM, AIIM, Connecticut Business Council, USDLA and others.
Jones founded Executive Education & Management, Inc., a consulting and research firm, in 1987. It was acquired by Caribiner in 1997. Caribiner was acquired by Jack Morton Worldwide in 1998. Jones later joined Nth Degree in 2002. He re-established the original private consultancy as Constellation Communication Corp. in 2004.
Prior to founding Executive Education & Management, Inc., Jones spent 13 years with AT&T, BellSouth and Southern Bell in various sales, technical and business management positions. Jones’ experience included regional and national sales management, marketing and product marketing management, customer service and technical support management and corporate and customer education development and delivery.
Jones participated on a small team to develop AT&T’s "Center for Executive Education", a customer executive marketing program that produced remarkable results. Jones also provided account planning methodologies and developed AT&T’s financial selling strategies for use in the telecommunications and computer markets.
Jones received his BBA, with concentrations in economics and marketing, from Oglethorpe University in 1977. He received his MBA, with concentrations in finance and strategic planning, from Mercer University in 1990..
Jones is married and has two daughters. One is the business and finance manager for Constellation, and the other is a middle school teacher in Gwinnett County Georgia. Ed has two granddaughters.
Interests and Affiliations:
Jones has a special interest in the quality of education for children and young adults, as they develop into future employees and leaders. Jones served as a member of the Board of Fellows for the Center for Information & Communication Sciences at Ball State University for twenty years, and was named the first Industry Fellow of the Year, and Fellow of the Decade in 1999. Jones provided counsel to the United States Distance Learning Association, and International Digital Media and Arts Association through his affiliation with Ball State University. Jones served on the board and as Chairman of the Board for Mount Carmel Christian School (Pre-K through 8) in Atlanta.
Ed loves photography, antique cars and boats and loves to ski. He is avid speaker, covering topics such as “Going to Market in the 21st Century,” “How to Measure the Value of Marketing and Internal Events,” “Deputizing the Customer,” "Excellence in Marketing Communications for Events," "Linking Marketing to Sales," and many other marketing and communication related topics.
